Teams of 4-5 business students enrolled in an elective course on Workplace Diversity will work together on an workplace problem of equity and inclusion while providing culturally and industry-specific solutions. Projects can involve testing for bias in a hiring platform that a company may use for selection, how to communicate with a diverse client base (via social media posts, public service announcements, infographics), training programs for reducing sexual or racial harassment, or strategies to reduce prejudice or bias in the workplace.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

--Every week in the 12 week course, students will be engaged in role-play exercises, and experiential exericses (like games) to learn about how to solve problems of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

--They will also read and reflect on academic articles written by the professor on the topic of workplace diversity to make sense of their own lived and classroom experiences.

-- For the project, students will conduct academic research and use company specific background to develop their recommendations on how to solve the problem.

--They will make 15 minute presentation in teams and answer Q&A about the presentation.

--Students will also submit relevant materials(e.g., social media posts/public service infographics) created for the partner.

Project Examples

Requirements

--Conduct experiments or research on AI platforms dedicated to HR functions - e.g., research on the bias inherent in a hiring platform or a performance management platform.

--Integrate student resarch with the academic research to explain the reasons for the findings.

--Develop a strategy for the company on how to mitigate these biases via changes in the training sets provided to the AI in the platform or other features in the roll-out of the platform for company use by providing an outline of the types of biases and how to overcome them.
