The nationally recognized Sustainability Program at Stockton University prepares students to create more than just a healthy and environmentally sound future. All sustainability students complete coursework in ecological economics, environmental policy and law, ecological principles, research and statistics, environmental sustainability, and conduct hands-on work in sustainable technologies.

Students within the Sustainability Management Concentration are trained in traditional business principles and tools used in management, accounting, and finance and in sustainability specific principles and tools including systems thinking, design for the environment, life cycle assessment, sustainability reporting, sustainability assessment and planning, and sustainability certification.

The final project deliverable is in the form of a written report detailing current B Impact Assessment score, areas of improvement, and a strategy plan for meeting the B-Corporation certification requirements.

  • Preliminary life-cycle assessment (LCA) for one major service or product provided by the business with related report and recommendations
  • Materiality analysis for stakeholder assessment and related report with recommendations
  • Sustainability educational resources related to your organizations practices
  • Information on financing/grant opportunities and programs

Project Examples

Requirements

Student consultants from this program will be able to help your organization with general business sustainability practices and conduct various types of sustainability assessments, including using the B Impact Assessment tool to assess levels of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Students will use the B-Impact Assessment tool to create a strategic plan to assist the organization in achieving B Corp certification. Once the assessments are completed, students analyze collected information to determine a broad range of possible recommendations for improved sustainability performance, particularly those that would improve the chances of receiving certification. Final recommendations should address the business owner/manager's current business-related needs as well as encourage progress to the next step of sustainability

Recommendations are presented within the following categories :

  • No cost/low cost, easy immediate implementation
  • Moderate cost, mid-term implementation.
  • Larger investment, long-term implementation
