Virtual Work Term Opportunity

Bring on one or more students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in the Interior Design and/or Building Sciences program to work virtually, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the work term period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students are available for work terms starting June 1st– August 28, 2020 with a flexible start date up to July 6.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will initially occur virtually, with potential of on-site and/or in-office work. We request that students complete a minimum of 300 hours either full time or part time.

Compensation for students is optional. Paid is preferred, with the option of wage subsidy programs that are available specifically to students in this program. If requested, the co-op coordinator can provide all information related on qualifying for wage subsidies.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project. The student should complete a minimum 300 hours with your organization by Aug 28, 2020.

Depending on the nature of the project, deliverables can range from preliminary research to final working drawings.

Graduates are employed by architects, engineers, interior designers, and facilities managers. Many graduates are self- employed consultants in the home building industry. Others work for home designers, developers, contractors or construction specialty companies.

Project Examples

Requirements

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the work term, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Students have training in all aspects of residential design and wood frame construction in the field of interior design and building sciences, which can be applied to architecture and the home building industry.

Students are capable of doing the following tasks, amongst others:

  • Construction drawings; details, floor plans, site plans, elevations, building sections
  • Computer Aided Drafting (AutoCAD), REVIT
  • Design, sketches
  • Project Coordination

Project examples that students can complete will vary depending on your company's needs.
