Bring on students from Fanshawe College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Students in this course learn to use biomechanical, Human Interface, usability, and anthropometric indicators to evaluate products. Ideally the product offers some comfort, safety or improved usability for the customer. In this project, students will work with a company to review a product that aims to solve an ergonomic issue and its advantages vs the current products and process on the market.
Learners
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations
- Marketing material to support the use of your product

Project Examples
Requirements
Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify ergonomic and usability metrics. They will provide quantitative biomechanical evaluations, usability and anthropometric assessments that would lead to recommendations and marketing material.
Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Understanding the market and intended use of the product, including literature review and product reviews.
- What are the benefits or advantages of using this product? Are there drawbacks or disadvantages of using this product? (SQDCME safety, quality, delivery, cost, Moral, environmental impact)
- Identify the risk factors with and without the product and a summary of their observations from product reviews.
- Evaluations on comfort or discomfort related to the product tasks and uses.
- Evaluate the product compared to the current product and process - (biomechanics , anthropometry, and usability)
- Product evaluation / usability evaluation
Additional company criteria
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.
A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
How is your project relevant to the course?
Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.
