Virtual Work Term Opportunity

Bring on one or more students from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in the Geomatics & Surveying Engineering Technology program to work virtually, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the work term period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students are available for work terms starting June 1st– August 28, 2020 with a flexible start date up to July 15.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements might occur virtually, with the ability of on-site and/or in-office work if the situation permits.

Compensation for students is optional. Paid is preferred, with the option of wage subsidy programs that are available specifically to students in this program. If requested, the co-op coordinator can provide information related on qualifying for wage subsidies.

Project Examples

Requirements

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the work term, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Students understand all aspects of Geomatics and Survey Engineering. In addition to traditional surveying, Geomatics Engineering Technology students are trained in computer-aided design, digital mapping, GNSS surveys, and Geographical Information Systems. These skills can be applied to many facets of the surveying industry.

Students are capable of doing the following tasks, amongst others:

  • (traditional) Surveying
  • GIS
  • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), REVIT
  • Design
  • Engineering
  • Project Coordination

Project examples that students can complete will vary depending on your company's needs.
