patient safety just culture methodology mentorshipTo foster a just culture in an organization, develop a framework and implementation plan for nurse-led safety huddles on inpatient units.
Students would be expected to work towards the above outcomes and deliverables, as well as meeting with Patient Safety Consultants at RVH to assist in mentorship/guiding the work. This can be done remotely. They may also be invited to Quality of Care Reviews to understand the outcome of patient safety reviews when safety items are brought forward/occur.
The anticipated result of this project will be to create a framework and implementation plan including: prompting questions, what information/data is shared, where will the safety concerns go that staff bring forward, how will improvements be tracked and how will this improve patient safety and just culture at the frontline.
This will benefit the organization by creating a framework for frontline staff to facilitate structured safety discussions, while fostering a just culture. Additionally, this will benefit students by learning about these two topics and how they play an important role in speaking up about safety and how to have these conversations when they enter the workforce.
