Diversity in the Workplace --Winter 2025

Teams of 4-5 business students enrolled in an elective course on Workplace Diversity will work together on an workplace problem of equity and inclusion while providing culturally and industry-specific solutions. Projects can involve testing for bias in a hiring platform that a company may use for selection, how to communicate with a diverse client base (via social media posts, public service announcements, infographics), training programs for reducing sexual or racial harassment, or strategies to reduce prejudice or bias in the workplace.
Business Negotiations & Bargaining - Winter 2025

3rd and 4th year undergraduate students in a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program will work in 3-5 person teams to research and develop a recommenation for a negotiation or bargaining challenge faced by your organization. Students learn about how to negotiate by participating in weekly role-plays. They learn to negotiate in a variety of contexts (B2B, sales negotiations, contingency contracts, labor-union negotiations, salary & benefits negotiations, cross-cultural negotiations etc.) for 10 weeks. Students will learn to conduct academic and market research on the context of your negotiation/bargaining challenge. They will be able provide recommendations including multiple equivalent offers by combining issues according to your priorities in your negotiation challenge. Sample areas of negotiation/bargaining projects can be in Mergers & Acquisitions, real estate purchases, auto purchases, factory purchases, AI-chat bot negotiations.
Using Research in STEM to Create Sustainable Human Resource Practices (University of Toronto)

Undergraduates enrolled in a human resource management course as part of their Science, Business and Entrepreneurship minor will work in 4-5 person teams to solve a pressing global environmental challenge -,adapting research in STEM to HR practices. Integrating the latest scientific research with their learning in the course on human resource management, students will create audience specific and culturally relevant ways to communicate the scientific research on the environment relevant to the public, to farmers, to agro business owners, or to other students like themselves. Students can create products or services based on the latest scientific research in Chemistry, Biology or other environmental science research relevant for a particular human community.

Based on the coursework, students will be able to conduct qualitative analyses of your compensation challenges. For example, they can conduct job evaluation, aligning new job descriptions into the existing compensation structure, or recommend additional benefits to your organization. For example, they can conduct quantitative analyses on relevant market pay data for comparative analyses or use the company's internal data to conduct a pay alignment and equity analyses with relevant industry data and/or data provided by your organization.
Negotiations- Fall 2024
3rd and 4th year undergraduate students in a bachelor of business administration program will work in 3-5 person teams to research and develop a plan for a negotiation challenge faced by your organization. Students will have learned to negotiate in a variety of contexts (business to business negotiations, sales negotiations, contingency contracts, compensation negotiations etc.). Students will be able to conduct background research on the market. They will be able to recommend multiple equivalent offers combining issues in your negotiation challenge. Sample areas of negotiation can be Real Estate Purchases, Automotive Purchases, factory plant purchases, etc.
Labor Relations/Employee Relations Consultancy (University of Toronto)

Projects will involve creating social media posts, public service announcements, infographics on a particular issue (e.g., vaccine uptake, mental health services uptake, etc.). Teams will present to employer for 15 minutes and answer Q&A for 5 min.
